The rain area described yesterday remained anchored over the QLD North Coast
today, with the heaviest falls contracting south around Tully and Innisfail
and clearing from the Cairns area. Cumulative totals to midnight tonight are
now between 100 and 400mm for most of the North Coast, and minor flooding
has started on the
lower
Tully
River.
The
rain
has been
remarkably steady
throughout the day, with many gauges recording somewhere between 10 and 30mm
in every 3-hour period.
The heaviest falls from 9am Friday to
midnight tonight have been around Tully with
totals
generally
around 250 to 400mm. The highest reported have been in Tully itself and for
10 to 15km N and NW of the town. Bulgun Creek Alert registered 439mm, Jarra
Creek Alert
415
and Tully Alert
389. During the 24 hours midnight to midnight today, Bulgun Creek recorded
246mm and Tully 177. The Tully River at Euramo, downstream from these raingauges,
rose above minor flood
level
late
this evening.
Farther north, in the Johnstone River catchment around Innisfail, recordings
from 9am Friday to midnight tonight have been between 100 and 300mm. The heaviest
have been in a band 10 to 15km to the W to SW of Innisfail, with Tung Oil recording
305mm, Marco Street 289, Central Mill 280 and
South
Johnstone
Experimental
Station 278.
During
the calendar day today, Central Mill has recorded 212, South Johnstone 196,
Corsis Alert 188 and most other falls in the catchment between 50 and 160.
Rain eased today in the Cairns area, with the Airport only recording 32.2
today for a total since 9am Friday of 176mm.
